Diabesity Challenge Day #28 – A Day of Rest

dorToday once again I am calling for a day of rest. My body is calling out for today after two days of tough workouts and two days of temperatures over 100 degrees. Today I will concentrate more on the diet and making smarter choices with food. I have prepared a nice fresh garden salad.

I gave into the BLT for lunch yesterday and also a burger and potato salad for dinner yesterday. I was no too happy with those food choices as I could of just as easily eaten a salad with the burger at dinner time and the BLT could have been replaced with a cup of soup and salad. Dealing with BLT’s this summer is going to be rough as Sharon loves them at lunchtime on the weekends, especially when we start getting those delicious heirloom tomato’s from the garden. It is pretty easy for anyone to say they are going to start eating a certain way, but another when certain foods stand before them. Overall what I am eating is still way more nutritious than the typical American diet, but this is still not an excuse for a type II diabetic to eat certain things. I have start trying a little harder.

Sometimes it’s not only my body that needs rest it is also my soul. I will be off to work in just a few hours but I will remember to take the time to seek out and notice those things that bring about comfort. And I am not talking about food. Just finding a place to sit at lunchtime today where I am surrounded by the wonders of nature will be the perfect solution to letting my mind relax as well as my body.

  1. I love BLT’s too. Don’t know how I’m going to eat them this summer w/o bread! 🙂

  2. Eat the BLT, just lose the bread. As a first step, you could start by taking one of the pieces of bread and throwing it away, and then you have an open-faced sandwich. Small steps are progress

    It seems that no matter how hard we try, everyday is DAY #1! Give yourself some credit. Bill, you’re AWARE and you’ll reverse this glitch next time. This is not an easy disease to manage.

    BTW: most of my sandwiches are sans bread. I wrap the contents in a leaf or two of romain. It works for me. Good luck!

    I think what we eat makes 70% of the difference and working out 30%. Not science, just my own observation.

    I love BLT’s too….I have forfeiter the bread and used good ole romaine for the bread substitution…I know, I know then’s its not a BLT with out the good bread….but it woks, I also add slices of red onion….gives it the crisp crunch I miss…..just saying…you can always use light bread too!!!

    I do understand that…lol!! This time of year when all those delicious tomatoes ripen…it’s so hard to resist.
