With the purchase of an iPhone last year I thought that I would never have to carry a camera again due it’s picture taking quality. It does take fantastic pictures but there are too many opportunities I miss out on while not having a camera with a good zoom lens.
So I broke down this week and did some extensive research to try to find a camera that will fill this void. I didn’t want a bulky camera that would weigh me down in my travels and there were many good camera’s available to choose from. I ended up going with the Canon PowerShot SX710 HS due to its 30x Optical Zoom (25-750mm) and 20.3 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor combined with the DIGIC 6 Image Processor. I also like the Built-in Wi-Fi which allows wireless transferring of images and video to compatible mobile devices. This will save me a little time after coming home from a long hike.
My old Nikon was over 5 years old and started giving me broken pixels in my shots so I had to make the move. I do still love to use my iPhone for many pictures that I take while on the run, but for those good quality nature shots I needed something better.
For years I have thought about purchasing a really good quality professional camera, all the software and taking photography classes. Due to both a lack of time and resources this may have to wait until retirement as much of these are dedicated to paying down the mortgage. So for now a $300.00 compact camera is perfect for all of my picture taking needs.
