Even if you believe that you have enough water this shouldn’t stop you from trying to attain more. If you already have a swimming pool then you don’t much to worry about but if you don’t their are other ways of collecting water outside of your inventory.
Rain Harvesting
No one can truly predict when it is going to rain as meteorologists have a tough time doing it. However being ready for the rain is the best way to ensure you can collect much of this life saving element falling from the sky. The way to do it is actually quite simple, but will take a bit of physical effort.
First you want to purchase the larges water proof tarp you can. Water proof meaning that it is not pores what water would seep through. Each corner should have an eyelet hole where you could tie a piece of rope or paracord through. The object is to tie the two back ends to either a fence or available tree as tightly as possible without damaging the tarp. The front of the tarp should be tied in the same fashion but loose enough so that a heavy object like a rock is place in the front center it would hang low enough to just be taller than one of your five gallon buckets. And thats about all it takes to collect rain water other than remembering to check on the level of water collected and changing buckets.
If trees or a fence is not an option you could always make shift a frame life the one in the picture above. What ever it takes to get it done, just get it done.
Going down to the river
I really don’t think that I need to draw a map for this one. If you know where the favorite place is nearby whether is be a lake or river it is an easy source for collecting water. Just remember is you elect to use this water to drink you will have to purify it and filter it. The last thing we need is a sneaky little bacteria attacking our bodies during this period of survival.
With hurricane Ike, I imagined myself lounging in a nice cool pool during the horrible Sept/Oct heat that plagues us each year. What I didn’t imagine is a huge pine branch with SAP and tannins turning a Med blue pool into a green swamp. I spent day after day cleaning debris and adding shock chems just to save it. It was 30,000 gallons of undrinkable swamp.
There were also warnings of snakes and alligators in pools on my windup radio.
I had remembered to fill my tubs and had access to potable water thank goodness.
By week 2, my neighbors had a gasoline generator and ice.
Glorious ice.
They brought me hot beans and a small Ziploc of ice.
A hot meal.
Ice.
That small act of kindness made me cry.
I just cried.
And this is yet another reason to have enough stored so that we can help those in need.
