I am happy with both my weight and blood sugar numbers this morning as it seems my body is starting to go back to normal after a long two weeks of not being on schedule each day. Our house guests are gone and things are starting to get back to normal. Normal is a good thing and should be my home although I do love spending time with loved ones if it means traveling to see them or having them stay with us.
Although doing things like eating at the same time each day foods that are diabetes friendly, having a regimen sleeping schedule, getting a little bit of exercise each day and limiting stress is normal sometimes we just have to mix things up as life around us doesn’t always work on our schedules. It is at these times we have to remember to do the best we can while enjoying all of the joyful things and people we have in our lives. As a creature of habit and an over achiever I always have to remember this as it can get easy to get frustrated when life becomes a little bit different than what is normal to me.
As a new grandfather I am privileged to some of the most beautiful children in the world and I love spending time with each and every one of them. There is an unmistakable joy in bright eyes of our grandchildren and whatever it takes to be a part of there lives it can be achievable.
I have learned to live with Type II Diabetes and know all of the steps I must take each day to have a healthy life with this condition. Even when things change there is always a way to find those same things that will bring me home to maintain this current lifestyle. When I find myself in a position where I need to workout but don’t have my gym equipment I have learned that simply taking a walk or doing some pushups are a great substitute. When I find myself at a restaurant I know that I still have choices of simply eating a salad and a piece of meat or fish. It’s not the same food I would choose to eat at home, but in the moment it is a wise substitute. I am learning that these things are OK. There was a time where I would get frustrated when I fell out of sync with those things that I know I should be doing, but recently I have learned to just accept them and move on. You just have to keep on keeping on with the things you have to do that bring about the healthiest human you can be even when they are not your norm. And in the end it works and even if my blood sugar should rise during these times I know in my heart I have what it takes to bring it back to where it should be.
I remember as a child that some of the most valuable lesson I learned in my young life came from the wisdom of my own Grandfather. I want to shine the same light in the hearts and minds of my own Grandchildren and even if it means leaving the normalcy of my regular day it is so worth it. One man can not change the world, but can help in molding the minds of just a few in hopes that it will bring about a better future.

Think of what a great opportunity this is, to teach your grandchildren what you’ve learned, and include them in your new healthy lifestyle. I’m sure they would love the opportunity for a nice long walk with grandpa, or helping make a salad in the kitchen, or picking the very freshest strawberries for a snack. The main thing is to do what you’re doing, and not give up the big picture over tiny setbacks.
Yes, Life is very good. 🙂
Some of my fondest memories are the ones I spent with my grandfather. It’s so great that you are giving your grandkids the gift of you. Family is so important. Enjoy your time with them and know what a positive role model you are in their lives by showing them how to be healthy.
Thanks, these are special times. 🙂
I enjoyed my grand parents so much…I am hoping someday I will be able to be the grandmother my grandmother was to me to my own grandkids….wow say that 3 times fast…LOL I am jealous, but how lucky the little ones are to have you both for grandparents…..
The problem is that they are all over the country and constantly moving. Ahhhh
“that 3 times fast”, see I can do it. LOL
yes I am lucky to have both my kids living in the same town….for know anyway…they are both talking about moving to Europe…..akt
Oh my, that would be great for them but difficult for you. My wife and I talk about how everyone lived in the same neighborhood and kept things close throughout generations. The world is becoming smaller and smaller.
Yes when I was young…all my aunts and uncles on both sides of my parents were no further away than a couple hours..I grew up with all my cousins but now its been over 30 years since I have seen some of them…I would have fun hoping over to Europe once a year or so….but I would hate it too…..
The family is struggling
yes it is…
