Still Waiting to go back to Work

outofwork1My blood sugar is still high today at 130, but I did really well yesterday with my diet. I stayed on track all day, and as long as I can do this each day I should see better results soon. I am pretty much done with stressing out over this situation and have decided that most of the problem is that I am still not back to work yet.

It has been almost 8 weeks since I worked last and it is getting very stressful. As a retired law enforcement professional I have chosen to work in the field of security. I am very good at it as it is just a fraction of what I did as a cop and of course it only pays a fraction of what I earned back then. But still it is a place to go each day where I can supplement my retirement income and mix with people each day. Every two years I have to renew my security license with the State, and being that I work armed it takes a little longer to process the application. This year I was working in a temporary position outside of the employment of the security company I worked for during the time that I should have been going through the required training period to renew my license. My license expired during this time period and I had to start from square one. So here I am still waiting.

For many people this situation would bring about the opportunity to relax and enjoy the time off. For me it is just frustrating. If I were completely retired like I will be one day I don’t think that I would be as frustrated, but I still have another 12 years to work before I am at that point. For right now each paycheck that I earn goes towards paying down debt and even thought the only debt I have right now is my mortgage, it still is one of the tool I use to get me to my goal.

On the other hand I have gotten quite a bit done around the house, spent some good quality time in nature, did some reading and worked towards my minimalist goals. So I guess that overall I have made some progress in area’s of my life besides finances and I have been able to get things done that normally I wouldn’t have the time for. I know that if it were a little later in the season I would be working on my gardens, but there will be plenty of weekends coming up where I will have time for that.

Best of luck in getting back to work! I retired 6 years ago but still do part time work as couldn’t face sitting at home! This has given me time to plan my eventual full retirement and to set myself goals for the rest of my life!
