Spaghetti kicked my Ass

823dc652fbae13381cae54aeac4ab0e4_slow-cooker-meatballs-with-spaghetti-580x326_featuredImageLast night I ate a giant plate of spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. I went off menu to see what kind of effect it would have on me in the morning. I know, this was really stupid. My blood sugar went up over 30 points and my body weight went up over 4 lbs. Absolutely Crazy! Spaghetti kicked my ass!

Why would I do something like this? If anyone should know better it should be me… Well I have to be honest with you, this was less about conducting an experiment and more about having super cravings for carbohydrates. My body was craving sugar and I gave in big time. I worked out like a beast yesterday and my muscles were screaming for energy. So this makes me start thinking about my diet and how I need to slightly increase my carbohydrate intake slightly with each meal. Of course this will be done with vegetables and not spaghetti. On the other hand it could just be that I need to increase my protein and fat intake. I have my homework to do.

There are other options where special formula’s are made for body builders to take at certain times before and after workouts and I may look into those options today. I would have to find a product that is balanced for those of us who have Type II Diabetes where as the sugar content is low. I don’t like this option as I prefer to eat all natural, but if it helps with the cravings it my be worth looking into.

  1. Incredible what red meat and a plate of carbs will do to your body.
Nice you were honest about it though, lets face it, everyone loves spaghetti and meat balls!

If you’ll excuse the mixed metaphor, you fell off the wagon so it’s time to get back in the saddle.

  3. I was actually right next to you eating the same thing and yelling “OMG THIS IS SOOOO GOOD!!” 😁 Don’t beat yourself up too much, no one can resist sinful spaghetti 😊

As a Type 1 Diabetic, I give in to my cravings every so often. There isn’t much pleasure in life, but when I do something I know i’m not supposed to, it kind of liven things up a bit, well for me personally.
